GitHub Copilot Workshop
GitHub Copilot Workshop
Boost developer productivity with AI-assisted engineering.
About this Workshop
This workshop helps development teams adopt GitHub Copilot as a reliable part of their daily engineering workflow, rather than an ad-hoc experiment. Participants learn how to write effective prompts, use Copilot Chat for exploration and refactoring, and integrate AI-assisted suggestions into existing code review practices without compromising code quality.
Beyond individual productivity, the workshop covers how to establish team-wide guardrails: custom instructions, review checklists and security considerations that keep AI-assisted code consistent, secure and maintainable across a codebase.
From individual suggestions to a dependable team practice
The workshop uses everyday engineering work: understanding an unfamiliar codebase, writing tests, planning a refactoring, diagnosing an issue and reviewing a pull request. Participants practise giving Copilot relevant context, decomposing complex requests and validating generated output. The focus is on techniques that work with existing standards and architecture rather than on demonstrations detached from production code.
We also address responsible adoption. Teams define which information may be shared in prompts, how to handle dependencies and security findings, and how code review changes when AI contributes to an implementation. Custom instructions, repository guidance and lightweight evaluation criteria help establish a consistent developer experience without turning AI usage into bureaucracy.
The outcome is an adoption playbook tailored to the team: useful prompt patterns, practical guardrails, review expectations and a small set of experiments to measure quality and productivity. That gives leaders and developers a common basis for scaling GitHub Copilot safely.
