Azure Essentials Workshop
Azure Essentials Workshop
Build a solid foundation in Microsoft Azure.
About this Workshop
This workshop gives engineering teams a solid, practical foundation in Microsoft Azure. Rather than covering every service superficially, it focuses on the fundamentals that matter most in real deployments: how subscriptions, resource groups and governance boundaries fit together, how identity and access control protect a workload, and how networking connects it all securely.
Cost management is treated as a first-class topic rather than an afterthought: participants learn practical techniques for monitoring, budgeting and optimizing Azure spend from the very first workloads they deploy.
What the team works through
The workshop follows the path of a production workload. We start by translating business and regulatory requirements into an Azure landing-zone structure: tenants, management groups, subscriptions, resource groups, naming, tags and ownership. From there, participants configure role-based access control, policies, budgets and diagnostic settings, then examine how private connectivity, DNS and network segmentation affect an application’s design.
Hands-on exercises make the trade-offs tangible. Teams evaluate service choices, apply least-privilege access, set up cost alerts and use Azure Advisor and Cost Management as part of an operational feedback loop. The aim is not to prescribe a single reference architecture, but to give participants a repeatable way to make secure, governable and cost-aware Azure decisions.
By the end, the team has a shared vocabulary for Azure architecture and a concrete next-step backlog for its own platform. This makes the workshop a useful starting point for an Azure migration, a new cloud product or the improvement of an existing Azure estate.
