ASP.NET Modernization Assessment
ASP.NET Modernization Assessment
Assess and plan the modernization of your ASP.NET applications.
About this Workshop
Legacy ASP.NET applications often carry years of accumulated dependencies, custom infrastructure and undocumented assumptions. This assessment provides a structured, evidence-based view of an existing application’s architecture, dependencies and modernization constraints before any migration work begins.
The outcome is a pragmatic roadmap: which parts of the application can move to ASP.NET Core directly, which require refactoring first, and where containerization or cloud-native patterns provide the most value - sequenced by risk and business impact rather than by technical preference alone.
From inventory to an executable migration plan
Together, we create a technical inventory of the application: runtime and framework versions, libraries, authentication, data access, background jobs, deployment pipelines, integration points and operational dependencies. We identify boundaries where a strangler approach, an incremental ASP.NET Core migration or a targeted rewrite is the safer choice. Particular attention is given to high-risk areas such as session state, legacy authentication, System.Web dependencies, synchronous I/O and tightly coupled databases.
The assessment connects architecture to delivery. Participants discuss testing strategy, observability, CI/CD, containerization and hosting options such as Azure App Service, Kubernetes or a hybrid platform. This reveals which prerequisites must be solved before a workload moves and where a small pilot can reduce uncertainty early.
The resulting modernization roadmap is designed for decision-making: clear options, dependencies, risks and recommended sequencing. Teams leave with a common understanding of why the migration matters, what “done” means for their application and how to move forward without stopping feature delivery.
